Microsoft has started their new fiscal year, and has initiated a new reorganization as they frequently do this time each year. Sources indicate up to 3,000 job are on the chopping block this time around, mostly in sales and marketing. We expect the reduction will probably come in business units that concentrate on “legacy” on-premise solutions as Microsoft continues to focus on cloud solutions such as Office365 and Azure.

If you have purchased the latest Surface Pro and are having problems where the tablet just shuts down, you are not alone. Many users are reporting issues where the tablet just shuts off/hibernates. As of yet there are no official fixes or work arounds. The last Surface Pro models also had power management issues that plagued it from the first several months of it’s life on the market there were eventually fixed with updates. It’s unfortunate that its successor may be suffering similar issues.

Update 7/13: Microsoft says they have identified the issue and are testing a fix that will be released as an update.

A recent updates to Microsoft’s OneDrive cloud storage solutions will change how it works a bit; from now on your OneDrive folder must be stored on a drive that is formatted using NTFS. NTFS is the default format used for hard drives when you set up a Windows machine, but some users with smaller internal drives may set up OneDrive to sync to an external hard drive or SD card that may be formatted with FAT32 or exFAT. In this case OneDrive will stop working until you move your folder.

We haven’t seen this type of bug in quite some time, but it turns out the use of a certain special directory name will lead to crashes on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 systems. No word just yet on when a patch is forthcoming. More details can be found here at Ars Technica.

A problem with the audio drivers on certain HP notebooks has resulted in all keystrokes entered being recorded to a plain text file. HP has released a fix for this on HP.com and via Windows Updates. If you have an HP notebook listed in this article, we suggest installing updated audio drivers via Windows Update as soon as possible.

Near the end of last week, Microsoft announced it had isolated the cause of an issue afflicting a minority of Windows 10 users that occurred after upgrading to the Anniversary Update released at the start of August. Some users who had moved app data to a secondary drive were experiencing freezes after logging in once the update was applied. The issue has been corrected via a Windows Update, and users who have rolled back after installing the Anniversary Update can now safely upgrade again.
