Kinect (Officially) Coming to Windows

At CES last week Microsoft announced they will be releasing a version of the popular Kinect Xbox motion sensor for Windows computers. The development kit will be released at the same time. Currently no software titles have been announced that will make use of the sensor, however it is expected manby of the popular Xbox titles will be ported to Windows. The downside? The MSRP is $250.

Acer Shows Off New Super Thin Ultrabook

CES is here, and we will be seeing a huge number of product announcements in the next few days. One of the first is from Acer, who announced their new Aspire S5. The Verge has posted a brief hands on of what is currently the thinnest announced Ultrabook. Unfortunately, we are not expecting a release date until around May.

Prices Continue to Rise due to Thailand Floods

Major vendors such as HP and Lenovo have announced that component shortages caused by the terrible flooding in Thailand is forcing them to increase prices, as they are no longer able to absorb the increase in costs. Watch for more manufacturers to follow suit.

Seagate and Western Digital cut hard drive warranties

Will netbooks, like PDAs, soon be a thing of the past? Dell thinks so, and will soon cease offering their Atom powered Dell Mini, citing low demand due to tablets and ultra books.

First 1TB 2.5" SSD

OCZ will soon release the first 2.5" (notebook formfactor) 1TB SSD drive. Pricing has yet to be determined, though it is suspected it will be priced in the thousands.

Hard Drive Market May Take Year to Recover

PC Perspective is reporting that executives from hard drive manufacturing companies are reporting it may take until the end of 2012 to fully recover from the damage done by flooding in Thailand. This of course means storage prices will remain high for quite a while.

Wholesale costs of hard drives are up almost 180% due to the terrible flooding in Thailand. We could be looking at supply shortages and high prices until the new year.
